Hammersmith park celebrates green glory

23 November 2009

Frank Banfield Park in Hammersmith, which underwent a massive facelift last year, has won one of Europe’s leading accolades in the landscape industry.

Now in its 33rd year, the annual prestigious BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) National Landscape Awards pay tribute to outstanding professionalism and skill in the landscape industry. The Park triumphed in the Land Renewal and Regeneration Scheme category for construction projects which transform derelict or neglected land into a valuable landscape, including park restoration and land rehabilitation for nature conservation.

The Park’s redevelopment was a result of a planning agreement dating back to 2003 between the council and international property group Goodman, which is the owner, developer, and manager of the Waterfront and Riverside buildings at the nearby Hammersmith Embankment development. The Park is a popular cut-through for residents and workers, and now features a new children’s play area, attractive new landscaping, improved railings and gates and new benches, which have all been installed by Goodman’s landscaping team from Frosts Landscapes.

James Raven, Development Director UK Business Parks at Goodman, said: “We are thrilled with the improvements to the park, which have not only enhanced the space for local residents and workers, but have now also been recognised by BALI. This accolade builds on Goodman’s reputation as one of the world’s leading owner, developer and manager of business space, and our commitment to providing high quality working environments. The Park offers benefits to everyone that uses it and we hope this continues for years to come.”

Frank Banfield Park will now go forward to compete for the category prize and overall Awards winner at a glittering awards ceremony in December 2009 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

BALI Chief Executive Sandra Loton Jones commented: “A BALI National Landscape Award is one of the industry's highest accolades and is proof of an outstanding project. This is a fantastic achievement for all those involved; Goodman and Frost Landscapes have shown a huge amount of commitment and passion in their field.”

Consistent with Goodman’s track record of creating premium business locations, the company has already won BALI Awards at three other sites in the UK. The Waterfront and Riverside buildings total 194,085 sq ft and are home to WRC Holdings, Opodo and Betfair among others, and make-up the initial phase of Goodman’s Hammersmith Embankment development. Opportunities are now available from 5,000 - 16,554 sq ft.

Goodman also has detailed planning consent for a second phase for up to 400,000 sq ft comprising of offices, together with café, restaurant, retail and exhibition uses, and a water sports facility and pontoon.

Goodman has delivered superior business space solutions for blue-chip customers including Cadbury Schweppes, T-Mobile, Oxfam and NATS, amongst others. In October 2009, Goodman was awarded Highly Commended at Property Week’s 2009 Office Development Awards, in the ‘Development of the Year outside central London’ category.
